WHO are we?
- Holmes Chapel Christian Communicare is an independent Voluntary Service formed over 25 years ago, as a result of a meeting between members of the 3 Churches and the Health Centre. We now have about 120 members, about 70 of whom are occasional drivers.
WHAT do we do?
- Over the years, our main activity has become the Car Service where our volunteers drive people who have no other means of transport to the Health Centre, Hospitals, Dentists etc. We also have a small Home Care Service and run the weekly Minibus Service.
HOW does the car service work?
- Patients put requests into Reception at the Health centre. These are collected daily by one of our Organisers, who then finds drivers who can ‘do the runs’. Our drivers receive a modest mileage allowance to assist with running expenses, and users are invited to make a donation to cover costs. These voluntary donations are our only source of income. Last year our drivers carried out approximately 1300 journeys and covered more than 25,000 miles!
The weekly Minibus Service on Thursday mornings brings people from Goostrey and from around Holmes Chapel into the village centre.
For our Home Care/Befriending Service we have a number of Volunteers who will visit people who are house-bound or who will sit with someone to give their carer the opportunity to go out.
We are always on the lookout for new drivers – so, if you feel you would like to join us, or just for more information, please contact the secretaries:-
